Mark your calendars! The 2010 Great Long Island Tomato Challenge will be here before you know it. Last year more than 100 backyard growers entered the contest in the quest to find Long Island's biggest tomato.

This year's event will take place at Newsday headquarters in Melville on Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. Keep me posted of your progress, successes and mishaps throughout the season, and you might get a mention as I document the competition right here all summer long.

Just send an e-mail to jessica.damiano@newsday.com and include pictures of your seedlings, transplants and, of course, tomatoes.
