Ocean Parkway westbound will remain closed to motorists between the Wantagh State Parkway and Meadowbrook Parkway round-the-clock until the end of the month, state Department of Transportation officials said Monday.

Motorists traveling west are being detoured northbound on the Wantagh to the turnaround south of the Jones Beach toll booths and then on to Bay Parkway westbound to the Meadowbrook, the department said in a release.

Eastbound Ocean Parkway motorists are unaffected by the closure, needed to reconstruct the pedestrian tunnel between Jones Beach parking field 4 and the central mall.

After westbound construction work is completed, a similar detour will be in place for eastbound construction work.

The reconstruction of the pedestrian tunnel is expected to be completed by the Memorial Day weekend.

Motorists are being warned of the closures via electronic roadway signs. Westbound motorists are urged to use alternate routes, such as Route 27/Sunrise Highway or the Southern State Parkway, to avoid delays.
