LI dogs to share spotlight in 'Camelot'
A local St. Bernard will share the spotlight in a Northport theater company’s upcoming production of “Camelot”.
Zeus, a 14-month-old St. Bernard from Centerport, and a Landseer Newfoundland from Coram named Robert will each play the role of Horrid the Dog in the play, which is set to open next month at The John W. Engeman Theater.
The two were chosen from roughly two dozen dogs that showed up at the theater’s open casting call last month.
Christine Kearney, who owns Zeus along with husband, Dennis, and four children, said the “Camelot” production will be the dog’s first taste of show biz — but she doesn’t think he’ll be overwhelmed.
“When we went for the tryout, he walked on the stage and plopped right down and didn’t move,” she said. “The problem with him is once he gets down, it’s hard to get him up.”
