LIers win back-to-back on ‘Price Is Right’

For two Long Islanders, the price was right last month.

In a coincidence, Merrick’s Sue Moller and East Quogue’s Antoinette Piazza walked away winners on consecutive days from the popular CBS game show.

Piazza, the owner of Toni’s Barber Shop in Westhampton, took a trip to Santa Barbara to visit her brother, John, for spring break. When she learned he had tickets to “The Price Is Right,” she and her best friend, Jessica Skinder, booked a room at the Farmer’s Daughter Hotel right across the street from CBS Studios. During their stay they attended a seminar, given by the hotel manager, that gave them tips on how to succeed on the show. After several hours of waiting in line, starting at the crack of dawn, the two were seated right behind Contestants Row, and Piazza was selected to compete.

“I just figured it [being seated so close] was because we were acting like total New Yorkers, screaming and cheering,” Piazza said. “As it turns out, I was the first contestant picked.”

During the April 19 taping, Piazza won $11,000 -- after turning the rare feat of hitting $1.00 on the big wheel twice during the “Showcase Showdown” -- and two camcorders. But she lost in the final “The Showcase.”

Moller came home with a Ford Fiesta and two bicycles. She and her husband, Keith, were on vacation in California and decided to hop in line at CBS studios at 6 a.m. on April 20 for a shot at being part of the 4 p.m. taping.

The Lynbrook High School guidance counselor made it on stage by having the closest bid on the bicycles, then guessed the price of the $17,432 vehicle during her pricing game.

The shows aired on May 9 and 10, respectively.
