Long Island premiere of 'Lombardi'

WHAT Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts recently celebrated its 10th anniversary with a gala concert representing musicals of each season -- from "West Side Story" (2002) to "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" (upcoming this year). But Smithtown also has presented a few dramas. Starting Saturday, its roster of plays expands to the Long Island premiere of "Lombardi" -- in time for the football season. While theater aficionados are not necessarily gridiron fans, the name Lombardi is known even to those who check out "Pro Football for Dummies" at the library before every Super Bowl Sunday. (The trophy is named for the late Green Bay Packers head coach whose team won the first two Super Bowls.) The coach famously said, "Winning isn't everything, but the will to win is everything." In 2011, Judith Light was Tony-nominated for her portrayal of Vince's wife, Marie. But she didn't win.

PLUS: 'Sweet Charity' at Engeman

WHAT The John W. Engeman Theater at Northport calls the dance-card number of "Sweet Charity," the Cy Coleman-Dorothy Fields musical collaboration with a book by Neil Simon. The 1966 hit, based on Fellini's "Nights of Cabrina" (in which the sweet leading lady was a prostitute), won a Tony for Bob Fosse's choreography. (The 1986 revival won three Tonys.) The cleaned-up American version is about a dance-hall-girl-for-hire with a heart tattoo on her shoulder where the chip should be.

MUSIC: 'Two Tenors and a Lady'

WHAT "Two Tenors and a Lady -- Broadway Meets Opera," features the duo known as Vetro (Christopher Macchio and Elio Scaccio) and soprano Simona Rodano. Macchio, a classically trained vocalist, has been seen on PBS pledge drives hawking his "Dolci Momenti" CD. Scaccio's career has ranged from classical soloist to rock band lead singer. Most recently he toured in promotion of his 2010 album, "Lettere D'Amore." Rodano, a conservatory-trained classical and jazz soprano from Turin, Italy, appears in Broadway-style musical tours and on TV variety shows in her home country.

ART: Darfur sculpture

WHAT Hofstra University Museum presents "Toward Greater Awareness: Darfur and American Activism," an exhibit of large-scale sculptures by Mitch Lewis focusing on the genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan from 2003 to 2006. "These works address the physical and psychological scars left on mankind by a culture of violence and brutality," Lewis says.
