New York State, Nassau County, sanitation and community leaders are partnering to clean up Silver Lake Park in Baldwin.
Assemb. Brian Curran (R-Lynbrook), Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano, the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums, the Baldwin Civic Association and Special Sanitary District No. 2 plan to host the cleanup at 1 p.m. April 27.
“The cleanup . . . will be a great first step toward cleaning up Silver Lake Park,” Curran said in a statement about the park, which is near Foxhurst Road and Foxhurst Avenue. “We’re committed to restoring this county park to its former splendor, especially after such a harsh winter.”
Park department officials plan to focus on Silver Lake itself, taking all necessary steps to preserve and protect the wildlife and plants there. The grass will also be mowed, flowerbeds tended, graffiti removed, benches and masonry repaired and restored.
Curran, Baldwin Civic Association members and crews from Sanitary District 2 will clean the surrounding areas to beautify the park for local residents and visitors. Community members interested in volunteering should call Curran’s office at 516-561-8216.
