Marissa Elman
Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK High School
Marissa Elman, a senior at Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK High School, effectively combines creative text with her visual artistry. Recent pieces depicted her interpretation of a Carrie Latet quote, “If your lens is prejudice, you’re wearing the wrong prescription”; and used musical notes to depict a flow of movement in harmony. Marissa’s belief is that, “art can empower people to make changes – not only for themselves, but also for our society. Not only does art deliver a message, but it also makes people think about problem solving in different ways.” Marissa believes that art is a powerful tool that creates new perspectives and views - art can make the world a better place. She is a member of her school’s Varsity Soccer team and maintains high grades in her Honors and Advanced Placement courses.
According to her teacher, Marissa has consistently demonstrated a unique and tenacious approach to graphic arts. As a member of DECA, she is honing her marketing skills and uses her facility with graphics to enhance her projects.
