Mike Lodish, only guy to play in six Super Bowls
Mike Lodish was just thrilled to play in the Super Bowl as a rookie on the Bills in 1991. He had no idea back then that he would one day be the answer to a trivia question.
Lodish holds the record as the only player ever to have played in the Super Bowl six times. Former Bills teammate Don Beebe did go to the Super Bowl six times, but he was on injured reserve for Green Bay in his final appearance and didn't play.
Lodish, a defensive lineman, played in four consecutive losses for the Bills in Super Bowls XXV, XXVI, XXVII and XXVIII. He went on to win back-to-back Super Bowls with the Broncos in XXXII and XXXIII. He retired after lasting 11 NFL seasons.
"I was a 10th-round draft pick who never should have made it in the NFL," said Lodish, who runs a candy company in Michigan that makes Lodish's Champion Brittle. "To make a team like the Buffalo Bills and go to the Super Bowl as a rookie was just amazing. I was very fortunate to be a part of that organization."
Lodish still follows the Bills. He said he does occasionally get razzed by people for going 0-4 with the team, but it doesn't bother him.
Said Lodish: "Of course you want to win it and I did get to do that, but I know people who would give the left side of their body just to get to the big game. I'm very proud to be a member of every team that got there."-- BARBARA BARKER
