Hofstra University is hosting a Model United Nations Conference today and Saturday in the Sondra and David S. Mack Student Center.

The conference is a simulation that allows students to come together and discuss international affairs. It is aimed at providing students with information about the international political agenda, particularly the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. High school student participants hone their debate skills and network among like-minded students.

The two-day conference opened with a panel discussion featuring Howard Dean and Ed Rollins titled “What is the United States’ Role in the United Nations in the 21st Century?” The event will end with a closing ceremony at the Hofstra University Club at 6:15 p.m. Saturday.

Participating  schools include Bay Shore High School, Brooklyn Latin School, Connetquot High School, Eastport South Manor Junior Senior High School, Farmingdale High School, Floral Park High School, Friends Academy, Great Neck South High School, H. Frank Carey High School, High School for Telecommunications Arts and Technology (Brooklyn), Information Technology High School (Queens), Kellenberg Memorial High School and Saint Anthony’s High School.
