Movie ship, HMS Bounty, pulling into Port Jefferson

The HMS Bounty - the same ship used in both the 1961 movie "Mutiny on the Bounty" with Marlon Brando and the recent "Pirates of the Caribbean" sequel with Johnny Depp - will be pulling into the Port Jefferson dock near Danford's Inn next month.

"Pirates" will jump off and "raid" the village. But no one will be keelhauled. It will be to help promote the village. The event is the brainchild of Jerry Parisi, a partner at AdCount Marketing Solutions Inc. in Port Jefferson. The firm received a contract from the village Business Improvement District to create promotions. Lee Thompson, who is also affiliated with the marketing firm, said he contracted the Setauket man who now owns the HMS Bounty (and wants to remain anonymous.)

The Bounty is currently in Maine, having its bottom painted. But it will arrive at the dock near Danford's Inn on Nov. 6 and remain through the next day, pirates and all. Parisi is creating a television show about warring ad agencies, "Here's to Us," which will be used to advertise local products. He will have a crew film the Bounty's arrival and the pirate "raid," and incorporate a yet unnamed product into the show. He said he is negotiating with several major networks.

Village Mayor Margot Garant said the event will help promote the village. "We have a beautiful seaport and harbor," she said. A limited number of packages are available for a cocktail reception aboard the Bounty on Nov. 6. Tours will be offered Nov. 7.
