Nassau boys lax top 10

The 120th Woodstick Classic is in the books, as Garden City halted Manhasset's 45-game winning streak with a 10-6 win Saturday night.

That means West Islip's 32-game winning streak is now the longest active streak on Long Island.

And there's no rest for the weary Indians. They've got another big-time Saturday night showdown this weekend against Chaminade, our top-ranked team in Nassau.

The Flyers remain at No. 4 in the latest edition of Gregg Sarra's weekly Big 10. They are the only Nassau boys lax team in the Big 10.

Chaminade also remains the No. 3 team in MSG Varsity's tri-state top 14. Garden City moves up two spots to No. 4, and Manhasset drops three spots to No. 5.

In this week's ESPN RISE Fab 50 rankings, Chaminade moves up one spot to No. 7, Garden City jumps two spots to No. 9, and Manhasset slips eight spots to No. 11.

Now that you're caught up, let's get to this week's Nassau top 10. The only change from last week is that Hicksville and Long Beach switch spots (Nos. 9/10) after the Comets' 8-4 win over the Marines last week.

Three big Conference I matchups this afternoon could shake up next week's rankings, including: No. 7 Syosset at No. 8 Farmingdale, No. 10 Long Beach at Oceanside, and No. 9 Hicksville at No. 4 Massapequa. Also, No. 6 Wantagh plays at No. 9 Hicksville Saturday afternoon.

1. Chaminade (10-1, 7-0 CHSAA) — After winning a 10-3 decision at CHSAA rival Kellenberg on Friday, sophomore Ryan Lukacovic scored two goals and dished out a career high five assists in the Flyers' 14-8 win at Section I Yorktown on Saturday. Matt Kavanagh added four goals and one assist. They have now won four straight after the one-goal loss to West Islip on April 16. For complete MSG Varsity coverage of the game, click here.

Up next: The Flyers continue their five-game road swing at CHSAA rival St. John the Baptist tomorrow afternoon before the 7 p.m. non-league matchup at No. 3 Manhasset on Saturday.

2. Garden City (9-2, 4-0 Conference B-I) — The Trojans closed the gap in their 120-year rivalry with Manhasset to 64-56 with a 10-6 win on the road Saturday night. It was their first Woodstick win since 2008. Devin Dwyer (pictured, right) led the way with three goals and one assist, and Liam Kennedy added two goals and three assists. To read more about the history of the Woodstick from our own Bob Herzog, click here. Last Wednesday, Garden City shut out host Carey, 14-0, behind three goals from Jack Spencer and two goals and three assists from Justin Gutterding. Up next: The Trojans, who have won five straight, will go back into Conference B-I play with a 4:30 p.m. game against Mepham this afternoon, and a 4:30 p.m. contest at South Side on Tuesday.

3. Manhasset (10-1, 5-0 Conference B-II) — The 45-game winning streak came to a close in the Woodstick, but the Indians started a new streak yesterday afternoon with a 15-1 win over visiting Wheatley/Carle Place. Quinn Moroney had five assists, and Kevin Katzmann added two goals and two assists in a game Manhasset led 9-0 after the first quarter.

Up next: The Indians will play host to No. 1 Chaminade at 7 p.m. Saturday night, and then welcome conference rival Hewlett to town at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

4. Massapequa (9-2, 7-0 Conference I) — Jamie Shand scored the game-winner with 1:17 left in overtime, as the Chiefs came back from a 7-5 halftime deficit to earn a 10-9 win at home over No. 8 Farmingdale on Friday. Ian Lukaszewicz scored three goals with one assist, and Joe Danaher made 14 saves in the Conference I battle. To watch MSG Varsity highlights of the game, click here.

Up next: The Chiefs will play host to No. 9 Hicksville at 7 p.m. this evening in a Conference I matchup, and then will welcome Section I's John Jay-Cross River to town at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

5. Holy Trinity (10-4, 7-2 CHSAA) —  The Titans extended their winning streak to six with three wins this past week. They earned a 9-8 overtime win at Iona Prep on Friday followed by a 12-6 victory at Hewlett on Saturday. Yesterday, they beat Archbishop Stepinac 10-3 at home.

Up next: The Titans will play host to CHSAA rival St. Anthony's tomorrow afternoon, and then travel to Kellenberg on Tuesday.

6. Wantagh (8-3, 4-1 Conference B-I) — The Warriors bounced back from their loss to Garden City with two conference victories. John Ingrilli scored four goals with two assists in a 15-2 win at Division last Wednesday, and then Ryan Walsh did the same in yesterday's 13-6 win at home over South Side. Jake Gambitsky also made 10 saves.

Up next: The Warriors will play at No. 9 Hicksville at 2 p.m. on Saturday in a non-league matchup, and then at conference rival Great Neck South at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

7. Syosset (7-3, 5-1 Conference I) — Frank Buffalino scored three goals with one assist, and Ryan Hunter added three goals in the Braves' 9-5 win at home over conference rival Baldwin on Friday. Ryan Feit made 10 saves, as Syosset won its third straight.

Up next: After this afternoon's game at No. 8 Farmingdale, the Braves will play host to Cold Spring Harbor at 4:15 p.m. on Friday in a non-league matchup.  

8. Farmingdale (7-4, 5-1 Conference I) — The Dalers have lost two of their last three after Friday's 10-9 overtime loss at Massapequa. Sal Tuttle scored three goals in the loss.

Up next: After today's game at home against No. 7 Syosset, the Dalers will play host to another conference rival, No. 9 Hicksville at 4:30 p.m. next Wednesday.

9. Hicksville (9-2, 5-2 Conference I) — Joey Leonard and Sal Geneva each finished with two goals and two assists in the Comets' 8-4 win at home over conference rival Long Beach on Friday. 10. Long Beach (8-3, 5-2 Conference I) — Tom Hamlet scored two goals in the 8-4 loss at Hicksville on Friday. The loss snapped the Marines' five-game winning streak against Long Island opponents.

Up next: The Marines play at Oceanside this afternoon, and then play host to No. 7 Syosset at 4:15 p.m. next Wednesday in a pair of Conference I games.
