Thomas McKevitt for Nassau Legislative District 13

Thomas McKevitt previously served in the State Assembly and worked on what he called the more "global" issues of finance or the economy. But now, after two terms on the local level, he celebrates being able to "make a bigger difference in people’s lives."
The 50-year-old East Meadow Republican is making headway on that front, whether it’s a focus on the way police respond to mental health crisis situations or helping callers get vaccine appointments. He has pushed for flooding solutions for residents close to Newbridge Creek, trying to improve drainage for people who have needed sandbags for even minor rainfall.
Democrat Eileen M. Napolitano, 59, of East Meadow, is a licensed optician and school board member who has run for the legislature before. She does not disagree with McKevitt on much, but she has a record of advocacy and should continue raising her voice for her community.
Newsday endorses McKevitt.
Nassau Legislative District 13 covers East Meadow, North Merrick, North Wantagh, North Bellmore and Salisbury.
