Denise Ford for Nassau Legislative District 4
The only registered Democrat in the Republican majority caucus, Denise A. Ford is seeking her 10th term. She chairs the Public Safety Committee, which conducted hearings into the county's police-reform plan.
Ford, 70, of Long Beach, closely monitors road and drainage projects in her flood-prone, storm-battered, coastal district. Ask for a progress report and she'll tick off efforts on Nassau Boulevard, Lido Boulevard, West Broadway, the Nassau Expressway, and Rockaway Turnpike. Challenged on her party tilt, Ford says the GOP majority supported Democratic County Executive Laura Curran's efforts to cope with the pandemic and change property assessments.
While Ford runs again on the GOP line, her Democratic opponent is Claudia P. Lovas, 46, of Long Beach, a managing attorney for a law practice. Lovas says that after decades of "the same old same old" she can prod new efforts to render the district more storm-resilient.
Newsday endorses Ford.
