NYPD: Boy. 14, stabbed to death on Manhattan subway platform
A 14-year-old boy was found stabbed to death Saturday afternoon on a Manhattan subway platform following a fight — and the assailant is still at large, according to the NYPD.
The crime happened inside the 137 Street-City College station, where police responded and found the teen with a stab wound to the abdomen, the NYPD press office said in an email.
He was brought by ambulance to Mount Sinai St. Luke's hospital, where he was declared dead, the email said.
"There are no arrests in regard and the investigation remains ongoing at this time," according to the email, which said the boy's name wouldn't be publicly released until his family is notified.
Chief of Transit Jeffrey Wilcox said at a news conference Saturday night that there was a 911 call for a fight, which began on the street and continued on the subway platform.
“Upon arrival, officers encountered a 14-year-old male bleeding from his stomach area,” Wilcox said.
A knife and a broomstick believed to be connected to the fight were found by the police at the crime scene. In addition, crime scene investigations downloaded MTA surveillance video with “clear images of individuals who were present.”
Using that information, officers near West 173rd Street and Broadway spotted, detained and took into custody someone who resembled someone in the images.
“At the time, he was bleeding from his back and abdomen and brought to an area hospital” to be treated, Wilcox said.
That person’s role in the case remains under investigation, Wilcox said.
Speaking Saturday evening after a public appearance in the Bronx, Mayor Eric Adams said: “We’re gonna find out exactly what happened, and we’re going to find the person that’s responsible.”
