For fall 2011, Bibhu Mohapatra was inspired by "The Crucible" — Arthur Miller's classic play about the Salem witch trials, although models certainly weren’t clothed in shapeless Puritan-style dress.

Instead, Mohapatra imagined his collection set in a futuristic world where black magic is a force. Hence, the designs — and the presentation itself — had a dark sort of elegance akin to a speakeasy. Guests were transported to Mohapatra’s glamorous underworld as they entered the space.

A smoke machine spewed a hazy fog through which to view the collection of sophisticated, body-conscious gowns and cocktail dresses with sinister accents. Most notably, the models wore black leather gloves infused with crows’ feathers. Other touches included embossed leathers, a raven print, lacquered skin tattoos, metallics and ink-washed gold lame.
