Macaulay Culkin's life seems to be stabilizing following reports last year that he was battling a life-threatening addiction to heroin.

A few days after making a rare public appearance at New York Comic Con, the former child star popped up again appearing "healthy and happy," this time having cocktails with a gal pal in the East Village and then seeing the movie "Gravity," a witness told us.

"He looked great -- very bright and smiley," the witness said.

Culkin, 33, and the unidentified brunette started their night on Monday at Village Pourhouse, where they "were very casual and openly affectionate," said the spy.

After finishing their drinks, the pair headed to the nearby AMC Loews Village 7 to take in the new flick.
