FBI agent shot in Brooklyn, authorities say
An FBI agent was shot in Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
The agent was on duty with another FBI agent when he was shot, according to a high-ranking NYPD source.
"Earlier today, one of our agents was wounded by gunfire in Brooklyn and transported to a local hospital. No further details are available at this time," the New York FBI said from its official Twitter account about 5:15 p.m.
No FBI representative could be reached for additional information later Saturday.
The agent was shot in the shoulder about 3:30 p.m. near East 92nd Street and Avenue N in Canarsie, said NYPD Det. Sophia Mason.
The agent, who was not identified, was taken to Kings County Hospital, Mason said. His condition was unknown.
She said at 4:30 p.m. she did not know if any suspects had been caught, but an hour later, Mason said the FBI had taken over the investigation. Mason directed all questions to the New York FBI.
The NYPD urged the public to avoid the area near the shooting.
