An NYPD sergeant left the hospital on Saturday afternoon, a day after a 22-year-old man pleaded not guilty to shooting the officer and his partner as they attempted to arrest him for robbing a Chinatown mahjong parlor.

Joshua Dorsett, of Manhattan, faces a top charge of attempted murder in the shooting of Sgt. Carl Johnson, of Queens, and Sgt. Christopher Leap, of Long Island, after an alleged stickup Thursday afternoon at 91 Canal St. that was caught on video, according to a criminal complaint.

Dorsett also is charged with assault, aggravated assault on a police officer, and first-degree robbery. He pleaded not guilty to all charges during his Friday arraignment, according to public records. During the arraignment, at Manhattan criminal court, no bail was set. He was in jail at Rikers Island, records show.

Dorsett’s public defender, Bernadette Gerodias Rabuy, did not return calls seeking comment.

Johnson, who was shot in the thigh, left NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue in Manhattan on Saturday afternoon to a burst of applause from his fellow officers. He gave two thumbs-up before climbing into an NYPD van with crutches.

Leap, who was hit in the upper leg and suffered an abrasion, was recovering at his home in Suffolk County on Friday after being released from the same hospital. He appeared in good spirits on Friday, telling Newsday, "I’m doing fine."

According to the complaint, video surveillance inside the Canal Street parlor shows Dorsett pointing a semiautomatic pistol at at least five people. The video shows him taking their purses and money, the complaint states.

Surveillance video and body camera footage show officers tried to handcuff Dorsett in front of 167 Eldridge St. but he resisted, refusing to give officers his right arm. Instead, he kept his right hand in his pocket and on the semiautomatic pistol. He fired, hitting both Johnson and Leap, according to the complaint.

A semiautomatic pistol was found on the ground at that Eldridge Street location, the complaint states.
