North Bellmore no-cost breast cancer screening
Nassau County Legis. David Denenberg (D-Merrick), in conjunction with NuHealth - Nassau Health Care Corporation, will sponsor Tuesday a no-cost breast cancer screening event.
The mammography van will be at the North Bellmore Public Library, 1551 Newbridge Rd., from 9 a.m. to noon.
On-site nurses and technicians will provide a mammography, a clinical breast examination and instructions for self-examination. Patients and their physicians will be notified of the exam results.
The program is open to all Nassau County women ages 40 and older. Women covered by insurance, Medicaid or Medicare will have their carrier billed, and must bring their information card and a prescription from their doctor to the screening. Patients will be responsible for any co-pays charged by their carrier. Women ages 40 and older without health insurance will not pay any out-of-pocket costs.
Patients will be required to show ID at the time of the mammogram. Anyone who has had a mammography through Nassau Health Care Corporation must bring her prior films to her appointment.
Appointments are necessary and are scheduled on first-come, first-served basis. For more information, call Denenberg’s office at 516-571-6219.
