Omar Infante's error helps White Sox gain three-game lead on Tigers in AL Central
Matt Wieters hit a two-run homer in the top of the fourth inning to give the Baltimore Orioles a 9-1 lead en route to a 10-4 victory over the Mariners last night in Seattle.
Wieters, Nate McLouth and Adam Jones had three hits each for the Orioles, who pounded 15 hits in moving within a half-game of the idle Yankees in the AL East. Wieter drove in three runs and Jones scored four. Chris Tillman (8-2) got the win.
Former Yankee Hector Noesi (2-12) started for Seattle and allowed seven runs and eight hits in 11/3 innings.
White Sox 5, Tigers 4: Omar Infante's throwing error on a potential double play helped host Chicago score two runs in the fifth inning in a pivotal makeup game. Chicago increased its AL Central lead over Detroit to three games.
"I certainly don't think this thing is anywhere near over, but we have to win games," said Tigers manager Jim Leyland, whose team had led 3-0.
Red Sox 5, Rays 2: Tampa Bay is slipping out of playoff contention and tempers are getting a little short. Rays starter Alex Cobb and catcher Jose Molina got into a heated discussion in the dugout after a wild pitch and passed ball during the top of the sixth. "We're both really into that game, and we needed to win that game," Cobb said. "I honestly don't really know what the argument was about, still. We'll work things out. We'll talk about it tomorrow, or whatever, and leave it behind us."
Jacoby Ellsbury homered and had three RBIs for visiting Boston.
Braves 7, Marlins 5: Dan Uggla hit a three-run homer in the first inning and Martin Prado had four hits for visiting Atlanta.
Giants 2, Rockies 1:Brandon Crawford tripled, doubled and scored on a passed ball and Hunter Pence singled home the go-ahead run in the sixth for host San Francisco. Madison Bumgarner (15-10) allowed one run and four hits in six innings.-- AP
