Plainview mom debuts country album
Lisa Matassa never got to walk the red carpet during her past life as a dance-pop singer. But she finally got her chance -- more than 20 years later -- Thursday night at Carlyle at the Palace in Plainview during the release party for her country album “Me Time.”
“I had my 15 minutes of fame before,” said Plainview’s Matassa, a 40-year-old wife and mother of two who was featured by Newsday.com in January. “But I’m back because I have unfinished business.”
Matassa -- who has dubbed her combination of country and rock “Long Island Country” -- performed selections from “Me Time,” a five-song EP that she hopes will jump-start a new career after singing club tunes as Lysa Lynn.
Prior to her performance, the video for her new single “I Don’t Feel Anything” debuted on screens around the room, which was packed with hundreds of supporters. Co-Producer Tony Bruno, who has worked with the likes of Joan Jett and Rihanna and played guitar for Matassa Thursday, thinks her sound will relate to the masses.
“She’s not trying to be Taylor Swift,” Bruno said. “She’s being herself, somebody who’s trying to do this on her own terms. Even the title, “Me Time,” says it. She’s a mom, and like other moms sometimes she wants time to herself. It’s very honest. There’s no [BS].”
Songs on the EP “Me Time” are available for purchase at www.lisamatassa.com.
