Pollution, saltwater contamination on tap for meeting about water supply
A public hearing about the state of Long Island’s drinking water supply will be held Tuesday in New Hyde Park.
This is the second hearing sponsored by Nassau County Legis. Judi Bosworth (D-Great Neck) and Suffolk County Legis. William Spencer (D-Centerport) to discuss issues facing the water supply, such as pollution, saltwater contamination and sustainability.
Unlike most of New York State, Long Island’s water comes from a network of aquifers holding 80 trillion gallons of water. The hearing will focus on management, oversight and threats to the aquifers.
The meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Clinton G. Martin Park’s community center, at the corner of Marcus Avenue and New Hyde Park Road (enter at the “pool” sign).
