The Port Jefferson Village board held its last meeting of the year Monday, discussing the future of the area near the train station and scheduling next year’s meetings.

Deputy Mayor Adrienne Kessel, who last month announced she is undergoing treatment for breast cancer and intends to remain on the board, was conferenced in to the meeting by phone.

The Port Jefferson comprehensive plan for the village’s development and growth is moving ahead on schedule, Garant said. The village’s planning committee reviewed with the board comments about the Upper Port Jefferson component of the comprehensive plan to control development near the train station, which has a large commercial presence. Garant will meet with engineers this week to discuss specifics.

“There’s an overwhelming consensus in the community that something has to happen in Upper Port Jefferson,” Garant said after the meeting. “We’re definitely on track here.”

In other news, the village’s parking meters are suspended through March 14 per usual village policy.
