Post-blizzard updates: Romaine to speak
Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine will hold a news conference Thursday at noon at Brookhaven Town Hall in Farmingville to address the town’s snow removal operation. The conference is open only to media.
Romaine has been criticized for being away on vacation during the blizzard as the town struggled with cleaning up streets days after the storm.
Amid criticism of the town’s response to this weekend’s blizzard, Brookhaven Town Acting Highway Superintendent Michael Murphy resigned his post as of 3 p.m. Wednesday. John Capella was named acting superintendent.
Suffolk County police have closed a hotline set up to assist motorists who abandoned their snowbound-vehicles as a result of the blizzard. Police said they helped more than 100 people find their vehicles. Motorists who still need to pick up their abandoned vehicles can reach out to the local precincts at the following phone numbers:
*First Precinct 631-854-8100
*Second Precinct 631-854-8200
*Third Precinct 631-854-8300
*Fourth Precinct 631-854-8400
*Fifth Precinct 631-854-8500
*Sixth Precinct 631-854-8600
*Seventh Precinct 631-852-8700
The street closings for Wednesday night on Main Street in Kings Park and St. James have been postponed due to the expected snowstorm.
