A 49-year-old Plattsburgh man is dead and his friend's neighbor is charged with murder after a backyard argument escalated into a knife fight.

Plattsburgh police say Richard Bombard was in the backyard of a friend Sunday evening around 7:45 when a neighbor, 49-year-old Otis Grenton Jr., came over. Police say Bombard and Grenton apparently argued, and Grenton left for a short time.

When he came back, the argument escalated into a physical fight and police say Bombard was stabbed in the chest with a kitchen steak knife. Grenton ran off but was taken into custody a short time later.

Bombard was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Grenton was arraigned and sent to Clinton County Jail without bail. It couldn't be determined if he has a lawyer.
