Route 110 south reopens after overturn, officials say
Police closed southbound Route 110 at the Long Island Expressway north service road in Melville for more than two hours Tuesday after a tractor-trailer truck loaded with electronics overturned, injuring the driver, officials said.
Melville Fire Department Chief Jason Bernfeld, whose firefighters and medical staff responded to the call, said the truck was turning from the south service road onto Route 110 when it overturned onto its driver’s side — trapping the driver in the cab.
“We extricated him,” Bernfeld said, noting the driver was taken to Plainview Hospital with minor back and neck injuries.
There were no other vehicles involved.
The state Department of Transportation said the crash occurred just before 10:30 a.m. and the road was reopened by 1 p.m.
