Sag Harbor to vote on $9 million in bonds for Pierson High School

Sag Harbor residents will vote Nov. 13 for bonds to pay for two separate capital projects at Pierson High School.
The school board voted unanimously on Monday to hold a referendum on the proposals — $7,357,132 for interior and exterior work on the building and at the elementary school, and $1,620,000 to put synthetic turf on the athletic field. A majority vote is required to pass each proposal, and they are not dependent on each other.
The building proposals include replacing or reconstructing roofs, windows, doors and ceilings, upgrading the heating and air conditioning systems, adding energy-saving measures and improving access for the physically challenged. More than $1 million in improvements would be made at the elementary school.
The $7,357,132 is lower than the $7,559,876 in improvements originally discussed by the school. Details on the work are posted on the school district website — sagharborschools.org.
School officials say they will be providing more details on the work and the fiscal impact of the bonds in the next few months. Bond fairs to explain the proposals will be held at Pierson Middle/High School on Oct. 23 and Oct. 26, and the district is preparing a newsletter on the referendum.
