Softballin': Players of the Week

Kerri Shapiro, East Meadow – Nassau Player of the Week: The junior pitcher tossed a no-hitter, struck out 10, and homered in a 6-0 win over Carey. She followed that up by going 3-for-4 with two home runs, a triple and six RBIs in a 13-10 win over Massapequa that should help East MEadow lock up the Conference AA-I title.

Kristen Bricker, Sayville – Suffolk Player of the Week:  The first baseman homered in four consecutive games for the defending state champs, giving her a county-high seven home runs this season.  Over those four games she went 10-for-13 with 16 RBIs in four Sayville victories.  

Sofia Evangelista, St. John the Baptist: Entering the season, it had been nearly three years since a CHSAA pitcher defeated Kellenberg. Evangelista has now done it twice this season. The junior pitcher struck out 11 and allowed just four hits over 10 innings in a 2-1 win over the defending state champions.

Taylor Ludewig, Miller Place:   In a crucial match-up with Eastport-South Manor, Ludewig drilled a triple in the top of the eighth inning and came around to score the go-ahead run on an error to propel Miller Place to a 2-1 win.  She went 2-for-2 against Westhampton and 2-for-3 with two doubles against Mt. Sinai to help keep Miller Place atop League VI.

Amanda Turner and Kristen Hickey, New Hyde Park: Both had a perfect day at the plate in an 18-3 win over Floral Park. Turner went 4-for-4 with a grand slam and a solo home run and Hickey went 3-for-3 with seven RBIs, finishing a single shy of the cycle.

Kiley Nolan, Center Moriches: The junior pitcher tossed the first no-hitter in her three-year varsity career, allowing one walk with seven strikeouts in a 5-0 win over Bayport-Blue Point. She also went 2-for-2 and broke a scoreless tie with a RBI double in the third.  

Tiffany Longarzo, Valley Stream Central: Her day during an 18-2 win over Elmont: 5-for-5 at the plate. Got the W in the circle. Drove in nine runs. Smashed a grand slam. Hit for the cycle.
