The Suffolk County Water Authority will test for free the private wells of county residents who want to be sure their water supply was not contaminated by bacteria, fuels or chlorides in the wake of superstorm Sandy.
The testing, for residents within the water authority service area, will be available through Dec. 20.
“We encourage those whose homes are in areas that have sustained significant storm damage and who use a private well to take advantage of this opportunity and have your water tested,” SCWA Board Secretary Patrick G. Halpin said in a news release.
The authority is the largest water provider in Suffolk County, serving about 1.2 million customers.
