Suffolk Legis. Sarah Anker: Denied write-in try a 'sneaky maneuver'
A move to allow a write-in campaign for the Working Families Party line against Suffolk Legis. Sarah Anker was thrown out in State Supreme Court Thursday because the petitions seeking the vote did not comply with state rules.
Justice Hector LaSalle ruled that the petitions to wage an Opportunity To Ballot did not comply with rules that require that petitions include a three-member Committee to Receive Notices, a group charged with receiving information from the board in case there are problems or issues with the petitions. The committee listed only one member.
Anker (D-Mount Sinai) called the attempt “a sneaky maneuver” because the effort was engineered by people who are not aligned with the principles of the Working Families Party, a union-backed minor party.
Her Republican foe, Jennifer Juengst, said she was unaware of the decision and declined to comment until she could review the ruling.
