Newsday's Erin Geismar is in day three of our series, Town Focus: The Ronkonkomas.

On Tuesday, I toured the Lake Ronkonkoma Historical Society Museum with museum curator Dale Spencer, above.

Through my talk with Spencer and meetings I’ll have this week with lifelong Ronkonkoma residents, I’m piecing together a history of the area, including the evolution of the lake’s role in the community over the years.

Today, I’m heading to Ballet Long Island, a nonprofit dance studio in Ronkonkoma that is putting on performances of "The Nutcracker" this week. The studio’s dancers are performing all week at Islip Town Hall and hosting school groups and senior citizens at their studio for shortened versions of the classic ballet that it calls “Nutcracker in a Nutshell.”

Follow me on Twitter for pictures from the ballet, interesting facts about the people I meet and more, @ErinGeismar. As always, if you have a suggestion, send me an email at erin.geismar@newsday.com, or comment below.
