Town Focus: Day 4 in Smithtown

On my fourth day in Smithtown, I’m beginning to wrap everything up, but at the same time give you a taste of its local history and introduce you to more members of its community..

Look out for a story on the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind and how its volunteers use streets in the community to train guide dogs for the visually impaired.

If you have a chance, check out my Newsday colleague Tara Conry’s business profile of Cupcake Couture on Main Street in Smithtown. She did an excellent job yesterday getting a feel for the business atmosphere on the main strip.

I’ll be starting my day checking out an educational event involving children learning about nocturnal animals at Sweetbriar Nature Center in Smithtown. The event will allow children to learn more about screech owl, snake and rabbit habitats, while taking a hike on the preserve, weather permitting.

After lunch, I’ll be sitting down at Cupcake Couture on Main Street with Kay Nuthatch, a Nesconset resident who has been blogging since March about life on Long Island, especially in Smithtown. (http://coastalvillagegirl.blogspot.com).
