How long have you lived in Center Moriches?
Well my daughter was born 47 years ago, so for 47 years. I was born in Bay Shore and lived in Islip my whole life. My husband had a dream of building a marina. He used to say, "Miriam, wouldn't this make a great marina?" I would think, what a weirdo. But he ended up building Senix Marina, it was just a duck farm before that.

Why do people call you the unofficial mayor of Center Moriches?
People come to me all the time. They have told me that if I don't know the answer to a question, I'll find it for you. I have organized events like the Ladies Fishing Tournament and the Relay for Life. They made me grand marshal at the St. Patrick's parade. It was a great honor and it came out of the blue. It was very special.

How would you define the character of Center Moriches?
Low key, definitely, but friendly. A lot of people are just starting to be aware that there are so many talents here. That there are so many resources here. We have the MYO, the Moriches Youth Organization, it's great for the kids. But we need more members for the civic association.

Why have you stayed in Center Moriches?
I have gotten to know so many faces. I have done so many crazy things here. It’s the water, it’s the beaches. It’s the people, they are just so caring. They never say no to me.
