Vacant lot in Levittown will now house radiologists

Hempstead Town officials joined doctors from Zwanger-Pesiri Radiology last week to celebrate the groundbreaking for a new state-of-the-art facility on formerly blighted property in the heart of Levittown.

The property, 3235 Hempstead Tpke., was home to a Jewish community center that fell into disrepair after the building was vacated. The structure was demolished in 2011 and the property remained vacant, officials said.

“The development of this property which has been vacant for so long is worth celebrating,” Supervisor Kate Murray said in a statement. “That an innovative and thriving business such as Zwanger-Pesiri has chosen to come to Levittown makes this even better.”

Town officials also joined the Chamber of Commerce of the Bellmores last week for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the organization’s new office on Pettit Avenue, adjacent to the Bellmore train station.

The office is a result of the expansion of the Nassau County Police booth, which is located on town property. The new structure will house both the chamber and the auxiliary police, officials said.

“As past-president, I know how long having a permanent home has been a dream for the Chamber,” Councilman Gary Hudes said in a statement. “I could not be happier that Hempstead Town had a role in helping that dream become a reality.”
