Lake Ronkonkoma Beach reopens

Lake Ronkonkoma Beach in the Town of Islip reopened Thursday after having been closed to bathing, according to the Suffolk County health department. The beach was closed Wednesday as a result of excessive levels of blue-green algae.

Remaining closed is the lake swim area of Peconic Dunes County Park on Great Pond, Peconic, closed to bathing on Aug. 11, health officials said.

Beaches will remain closed until the water quality is deemed acceptable, with sampling conducted in most cases on a daily basis, officials said.
