Thunderstorms were moving east through Long Island Sunday night, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds and even hail and some could continue through the night, forecasters said.

A special weather statement warning of high winds and hail was issued for Centereach, Coram and Shirley until 11:15 p.m. and for Hampton Bays and Riverhead until midnight as the system moved quickly through to the East End.

"Lightning strikes and locally heavy rain will be the main hazards,” said James Connolly, a meteorologist with the weather service but not all areas of Long Island will be hit by the storms, he said.

Monday should features sunny skies but with a 20% chance of showers after 2 p.m. and a high near 75 degrees. Monday night will be mostly clear with temperatures dipping to about 58 and southwest winds between 8 to 10 mph.

The sun shines for the rest of the week with Wednesday's high about 71 and temperatures in the low 50s by the evening.

On Thursday, the high should hit about 67 with mostly sunny skies, the weather service said. Thursday night will be partly cloudy with a low near 50.
