Torrential rain, gale warnings on LI Sunday
Long Islanders can expect warmer weather and mostly dry conditions early this week after a wet weekend, meteorologists said, before the rain comes back.
“We’re looking at a return to warmer temperatures in the beginning,” said Faye Morrone, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Upton.
On Monday, clouds and fog in the morning will give way to sunshine during the mid-afternoon and highs are forecast in the mid-50s for most of the Island, with lower-50s expected for the East End, Morrone said. At night the low in most areas will be in the lower-30s, though temperatures are expected to drop to the mid-20s in the Pine Barrens
Expect “tons of sunshine” for Tuesday, News 12 Long Island meteorologist Pat Cavlin said.
Morrone said Tuesday’s highs will be in the upper 40s to low 50s. Overnight it will be chilly, however, with lows in the upper 30s, the meteorologists said.
Clouds move in for Wednesday when there’s a remote chance of a shower and highs are expected in the low 50s. Look for another chilly night when lows will be near 40.
Thursday will be cloudy but mild with rain developing in the afternoon. Highs will be in the mid-50s before periods of rain make for a damp night with lows in the low 40s.
The weekend gets a damp kickoff on Friday when there’ll be more clouds with periods of rain — some heavy at times. It will be cooler with highs in the upper 40s. Rain will taper off to showers overnight when lows will be in the upper 30s.
For this time of year, the high temperature in Islip is typically 42 degrees and the low is 27 degrees, Morrone said.
