60°Good Morning

Skies will clear Saturday as temperatures on Long Island will get into the 80s, potentially clear of showers, according to the National Weather Service.

While the weather service predicts a 50% chance for showers Friday night, skies will clear with temperatures in the 70s after midnight.

On Saturday, temperatures will hit a high of 85 before dropping to 69 at night, the weather service said. This comes after heavy rainfall hit the Island, said Dominic Rumunni, a weather service meteorologist at Upton.

Meteorologists predict a mostly sunny weekend, with a few showers possible Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday temperatures will reach a high of 82, climbing close to 90 degrees Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with a 30% to 40% chance of showers Tuesday night into Wednesday night.

A drought that has led officials to call — mostly without success — for East End residents to moderate their water use will continue, Rumunni said.

"All of Long Island is in a drought, with some parts in the severe category," he said. "We see it in parched plants and lower water levels."

At the weather service's Islip monitoring station, rainfall this summer has totaled about four to five inches, half the normal amount, he said, though a fall storm could make up much of that deficit.
