Long Island weather: Overnight rain leads to mild, moist Thursday
After a breezy, sunny Wednesday, another round of rain is expected overnight before Mother Nature does a dramatic turnaround in temperatures, forecasters said.
"A broad low pressure system enters the region late tonight. Most areas near the New York City metro and Long Island will see light rain begin some time around midnight," said the National Weather Service's regional summary Wednesday evening. "The clouds and moisture on Thursday will keep temperatures mild reaching the middle 40s to around 50 by the afternoon."
But when the rain is done by early Thursday evening, temperatures will plunge with the arrival of a cold Canadian air mass.
"Temperatures overnight into Friday fall into upper 20s and low 30s with afternoon highs struggling to rise
above freezing during the day Friday," the weather service said.
Friday will be have a high of 31 degrees, under sunny skies.
Saturday will be a near twin; both Sunday and Monday will be at least partly sunny and a warmer 45.
By Tuesday, however, the rain could reappear, the NWS said.
