This week will begin with rain on Monday, but conditions will dry up for the rest of the week as seasonable temperatures and clear skies dominate the forecast, according to the National Weather Service.

Showers are likely on Long Island on Monday, mainly between 8 to 11 a.m., with mostly cloudy skies and a high temperature in the mid to upper 60s. A southwest wind between 6 to 11 mph is also forecast. The chance of precipitation is 60% as new rain amounts are likely to be between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, the weather service said.

At night, the chance of showers drops to 30%, mainly before 2 a.m., with cloudy skies and a low near 47 degrees.

“There are some lingering showers on Monday night and then we gradually clear out on Tuesday,” said Jay Engle, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Upton. “Then it looks mainly clear and dry for the rest of the week and with seasonable temperatures.”

Engle said the average high in Islip for this time of the year is 64 degrees and the average low is 47.

Though the forecast includes a mostly cloudy Tuesday, the sun is expected to come out later in the day with a high near 57 degrees and a west wind between 7 to 11 mph. Tuesday night will be mostly clear with a low of around 40 degrees and west wind at about 8 mph.

Clouds are expected to increase on Wednesday with a high in the upper 50s.

The sun returns on Thursday with a high of around 57.

Temperatures slightly increase on Friday with a high near 62 degrees and sunny skies.

Sunny fall temperatures are forecast for the weekend as mostly sunny skies and a high near 66 degrees are likely for Saturday.
