Long Island weather: Humid, high close to 90 as storms move in Tuesday.

A cold front moving into the region could trigger a series of isolated but strong thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon, with possibly damaging wind gusts, the National Weather Service said on Monday.
High heat and humidity Monday was forecast to lead to another steamy day Tuesday before the storms move in Tuesday afternoon. The chance of Tuesday storms was about 30% to 40%, the weather service said Monday afternoon.
"A cold front will bring isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon into evening. Some storms could be strong to severe, and while large hail cannot be ruled out, damaging wind gusts will be the more likely threat," the statement said.

Temperatures Tuesday figure to hit the low 90s before the predicted storms bring some relief. Expect Wednesday to bring sunny skies but stronger winds, with a high of just 82 degrees — but winds gusting to 21 mph.
There is a 50% chance of thunderstorms, on and off, from Thursday night through Saturday.
Mostly sunny skies return Sunday.
