Long Island weather: Sunny and clear for fireworks on July 4

Rain showers won’t likely ruin Long Islanders’ plans for outdoor fun during this year’s Fourth of July, forecasters said.
Local meteorologists said there’s little to no chance of rain for Independence Day.
“We’re looking at dry weather and we’re expecting mostly sunny skies,” said Jim Connolly, a metereologist for the National Weather Service office in Upton, New York.
“There could be some cloud cover during the early morning but that will dissipate as the day goes on,” he said.
On Tuesday morning, temperatures will be between 65 and 70 degrees across the island, Connolly said. In the afternoon, temperatures climb to the 80s, he said.
Toward Tuesday night, as fireworks begin lighting up the sky, temperatures will drop slightly to the 70s. Some places, like the southeast shores, will be slightly cooler.
Wednesday and Thursday should be sunny or partly sunny with temperatures in the high 70s. On Friday, there’s a chance of showers with a high in the low 80s.
