As expected, Friday was delivering warm, humid conditions, which were looking to continue into Sunday, forecasters said.

“Hot weather today with record high possible,” News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said Friday morning.

Indeed, as of noon the temperature hit 90 degrees at Long Island MacArthur Airport, breaking the record for the day, set in 1996, Hoffman said.

On Friday it was feeling more like 97, given the humidity, he said. The noon temperature in Montauk was 83, feeling more like 88.

The day also brings a moderate risk for rip currents at ocean beaches.

Long Islanders can expect generally dry skies, “although an isolated shower or thunderstorm cannot be ruled out at any time today, tonight and Saturday,” according to the weather service’s Friday regional summary.

“Some wet weather over the weekend, but not a washout,” Hoffman said. “You’ll be able to squeeze in some beach and pool time.”
