Long Island weather: Thursday brings more sun, temps in 70s
Long Island gets more sunshine and mild conditions on Thursday, with temperatures climbing toward 70 degrees.
The National Weather Service said another comfortable May day is on tap just before a cold front moves in during the overnight hours.
News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman called for a “beautiful” Thursday to be followed by threats of showers and rainstorms Friday and Saturday.
Winds Thursday start from the northeast and shift to the east southeast at 5 to 8 mph, Hoffman said.
The cold front brings in clouds and patchy fog overnight. There’s a chance of showers toward morning, and overnight lows are around 50 degrees.
Clouds and showers dominate Friday, with “a few spotty showers in the morning” followed by the chance of afternoon thunderstorms, Hoffman said. Highs are in the mid-60s.
On Saturday, morning sunshine gives way to an afternoon of clouds and scattered showers and thunderstorms. Highs are in the upper 60s. Hoffman said the best chance of rain is after 4 p.m. and through about 9 p.m.
Sunday is a mix of sun and clouds with breezy conditions and daily highs ranging from 58 to 63 degrees, he said.
