54°Good evening

The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for parts of Long Island for Tuesday night through Wednesday morning, as unusually cold air settles over the region for a couple of days before rebounding.

After a sunny day with a high of 46, it will be a cold, clear Tuesday night. The weather service says the mercury will fall to 27 and wind chills will make it feel between 15 and 20 degrees.

It will be blustery with a northwest wind with gusts as high as 33 mph, the weather service said.

"A cold air mass will be over the region tonight with subfreezing temperatures throughout the area, with temperatures ranging in the 20s, 10 to 15 degrees below normal. Wind chill values will range from around 10 inland to 15 along the coast, and around 20 in New York City," the weather service said in its Tuesday forecast discussion

"With the cold air mass and the growing season having started April 1 for the NY/NJ metro area a freezing warning has been issued for late tonight into early Wednesday morning," the weather service said.

It will be sunny Wednesday with a high of 47 and wind chill values of between 15 and 25 early on. Winds will ease by Wednesday afternoon and it will be cloudy Wednesday night with a low around 36.

Thursday brings a 20% chance of showers in the afternoon and temperatures rebound to a high near 50. Showers are also likely Friday afternoon, the weather service said, with a high of 52.
