Long Island should get another day of sun on Sunday before rain arrives in the evening and continues into the first day of the new workweek.
The National Weather Service on Saturday evening was predicting sunny skies on Sunday with a high temperature near 47 degrees, which would be 3 degrees lower than the average high for the date in Islip.
Sunday, a northwest wind of 10 to 14 mph is expected.
"We’re going to be a lot colder tomorrow morning. We’re going to be down to or just below freezing — upper 20s or lower 30s tomorrow morning," weather service meteorologist Jay Engle said Saturday. "And then dry on Sunday [during the day] and chilly — mid-to-upper 40s, so chilly on Sunday."
The chance of precipitation Sunday night is 60% with the rain likely after 2 a.m. The thermometer is expected to slide down to about 39 degrees.
Monday is slated to be rainy as a storm system moves through late Sunday night. Engle described the showers as a "cold rain" that will begin as a "wintry mix" north of Long Island.
"That [rain] ends by Monday evening," said Engle.
The high temperature Monday is expected to be around 48 degrees.
The weather service said that Tuesday will be mostly sunny, with a high temperature of about 53 degrees.
The next chance of rain will come on Wednesday, when temperatures are expected to be in the high 40s.
Thursday and Friday are both expected to be dry, according to the weather service.
