70°Good afternoon

Rain, rain and more rain are in the forecast for Long Islanders Friday and throughout the weekend.

Showers were expected to start as early as Friday afternoon in some parts of the Island and continue to spread across the region, according to the National Weather Service. The rain will continue through Saturday.

“It's gonna be one of those wet, crummy days tomorrow,” said service meteorologist Brian Ciemnecki.

The service predicted total rainfall for the weekend should range between 1 and 1¼ inches.

Sunday may see drier conditions, but we can't still can't rule out a shower, Ciemnecki said.

Saturday may be breezy, he added, but Long Islanders can expect a break from the windy conditions experienced earlier this week.

Temperatures are expected to reach highs in the upper 40s Friday, the mid-40s Saturday and the mid-50s Sunday. Overnight temperatures look to be in the mid- to upper 30s throughout the weekend.

Rain is most likely to cease Monday, Ciemnecki said.

Since Jan. 1, the service has recorded 10.07 inches of rain at Long Island MacArthur Airport.

"We should have 10.82 inches of rain by now, and so Long Island is slightly under," he said, adding, “It’s a needed rain."
