Enjoy Saturday — it may be the best day of the weekend, weather-wise.

A mostly cloudy, somewhat gusty day Saturday probably will give way to showers, and maybe thunderstorms, Saturday night, according to the National Weather Service.

As for Sunday, the agency has issued a hazardous weather outlook for northern parts of Nassau and Suffolk counties: Showers and thunderstorms are possible as a cold front moves in Sunday afternoon into the evening, "bringing a chance for scattered strong to severe thunderstorms. The main threat is damaging wind gusts, but hail and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. Localized flash flooding is possible." A high of around 85 degrees is predicted.

A high rip current risk remains in effect Saturday and Sunday for Long Island's South Shore.

"Life-threatening rip currents are likely for all people entering the surf zone. Anyone visiting the beaches should stay out of the surf," the weather service cautioned in a statement.

Thunderstorms and showers are likely overnight into Monday, before clear, sunny skies take over, with a high of about 80 degrees — just in time for the workweek.

The sunny, clear conditions, with highs in the low 80s and nighttime lows in the 60s, are forecast to continue into Wednesday.

July Fourth, Thursday,  should start off with partly sunny skies and a high temperature near 85 degrees but the holiday barbecue weather may not last. There is 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m., according to the weather service.
