After a day Saturday under the threat of thunderstorms, Sunday is forecast to be dry but mostly cloudy with possible high air pollution levels.

“The good news is tomorrow looks like a dry day, so we're going to salvage at least Sunday here with respect to precipitation,” said Brian Ciemnecki, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service's Upton office.

Sunday the mercury is expected to top out near 86 in Islip, but with high humidity it could feel as hot as 95 degrees. Temperatures will cool down to around 69 by evening.

And while outside activities shouldn't be threatened by rain Sunday, because of expected high ozone pollution levels, Nassau and Suffolk counties will be under an air quality advisory from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. issued by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

Suffolk County Health Commissioner Dr. Gregson Pigott in a prepared statement advised, "All residents, especially young children, seniors, those who exercise outdoors, and those with pre-existing respiratory or heart problems, limit strenuous outdoor activity."

The weather service said Monday, the start of the new workweek, will also be dry and a bit cooler. On Monday, the mercury should hit about 84 degrees under partly sunny skies before dropping to around 71 at night. Tuesday will be partly sunny at around 82 degrees. The evening could see some rain as temperatures fall to about 70.

There is a 40% chance of rain on Wednesday with a high temperature near 84 degrees, according to the weather service.
