The unofficial end of summer is bringing with it heat, humidity and plenty of rain, according to the National Weather Service.

The rest of the Labor Day weekend will see unsettled, humid weather with periods of rain, said David Stark, meteorologist with the service's Upton bureau.

Blame a slow-moving cold front to the northwest, which is pushing warm air from the south up to Long Island, he said.

Temperatures on Sunday will be near 80, muggy with mostly cloudy skies and chances for rain that increase as the day continues. Lows on Sunday will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s.

Monday, Labor Day, will be a little warmer, with highs in the lower 80s and an increased chance of showers and thunderstorms, Stark said. Lows will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s.

The humidity will begin to drop on Tuesday, with highs in the lower 80s and lows in the lower 60s.

A calm weather pattern settles in on Wednesday in time for the beginning of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, with highs in the mid-70s and dry conditions.

Lows on Wednesday will be in the upper 50s to lower 60s.

Thursday will be similar, with highs in the mid-70s and lows in the upper 50s to lower 60s.
